Seven Steps to Forever
The story of the Phere is a beautiful journey of commitment. After the initial ceremonies, the brides and grooms garments are tied together in a knot, a ritual called the Gathbandhan. This knot symbolizes their eternal bond and their union as one soul in two bodies.Together, they circle a small, sacred fire, known as Agni. The fire is not just an element; it is considered a deity, a divine witness to the vows being made. The couple offers puffed rice and ghee to the fire, seeking blessings from the gods for a long and prosperous life together. The most crucial part is the Saptapadi, where the couple takes seven steps together, each step representing a specific vow and a pillar of their future marriage. With each step, they build the foundation for their shared life. Once the seventh step is taken, the marriage is considered complete, sacred, and irrevocable.
